Below are some organizations and websites that offer a variety of information and tools on interpreting, sign language, deafness, advocacy, research and education.

Americans with Disabilities Act

 

The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodation, communications, and governmental activities. The ADA also establishes requirements for telecommunications relay services.

RID'S Code of Professional Conduct

 

The American Deaf community represents a cultural and linguistic group having the inalienable right

to full and equal communication and to participation in all aspects of society. Members of the

American Deaf community have the right to informed choice and the highest quality interpreting serv-

ices. Recognition of the communication rights of America’s women, men, and children who are deaf is

the foundation of the tenets, principles, and behaviors set forth in this Code of Professional Conduct.

Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf

 

The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID), a national membership organization, plays a leading role in advocating for excellence in the delivery of interpretation and transliteration services between people who use sign language and people who use spoken language

National alliance of black interpreters

 

The purpose of this organization is to promote excellence, empowerment and the continued growth of African American/Black professionals in the field of sign language interpreting in the context of a multicultural, multilingual environment. The mission of this organization is to meet the needs of African American/Black interpreters in the field of sign language interpreting with respect to recruitment, networking, professional development, moral support, training and research opportunities.

ASL-stem forum

 

The purpose of this online community is to bring educators, interpreters, captioners, students, and others together in order to help build ASL's technical vocabulary from the ground up.

The Educational Resource Center on Deafness designed this dictionary to be an educational resource for Texas parents, teachers, and interpreters who work with deaf and hard of hearing students, and also the students themselves. This dictionary was developed for Texas, using the Math Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum, state adopted textbooks, and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) resources to select over 500 vocabulary words.

Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
